Course Objectives
To provide an understanding of software testing that goes significantly beyond the ISTQB Foundation level. It provides test managers, test analysts and technical test analysts with essential common information. The course will provide a good level of knowledge that enables analysis of various situations in order to present practical solutions.

Course Content
Basic Aspects of Software Testing
This general section looks at how testing fits into any development and maintenance activity. A review of different lifecycle models and systems that need to be tested.
Testing Process
A look at the generic testing process and the activities that need to take place at each phase of testing.
Risk Based Testing
The session is dedicated to understanding the different types of risk, stages of the risk management process and the importance of stakeholder involvement. Understanding how a risk based test strategy can influence testing.
Reviews
Building on the Foundation knowledge of reviews, we go further into the principles and types of reviews and how to introduce them into organisations.
Incident Management
When can defects be detected and how can the lifecycle of incidents be applied at each level of testing. We cover examples of the type of metrics you can discover and how they can be used in process improvement.
Test Tools and Automation
The test tool concepts including cost-benefit analysis and strategies for tool deployment will be discussed. Test tool classifications bring more detailed considerations to the more common tool types e.g. test management and test execution.
People Skills
We cover the test teams’ communication methods and the importance of communicating the right information in an objective and diplomatic way.

There is no exam at the end of this course, but we will provide practice exams for all ISTQB Advanced Level qualifications. Exam dates can be found on this website: http://www.sastqb.org.za

Course Details
- Prerequisites
Those wishing to take the ISTQB Advanced Level Certificate exams must hold the ISTQB/ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing.
- Course presentation and duration
The course is presented by an experienced software testing practitioner. The course duration is two days. It runs from 8:00 to 17:30. This includes a lunch and two tea breaks daily.
- Course Structure
The ISTQB Advanced Level qualification is divided into three streams: Test Manager,
Test Analyst and Technical Test Analyst. Test and Data Services have taken out the concepts that relate to all three streams into this 2-day core module. This module must be completed by anyone wanting to attain the ISTQB Advanced Certificate before specialising in their appropriate stream.
- Training style
The course is conducted in a classroom style. Candidates use practical tasks to layer theoretical concepts.
- Comprehensive and accredited course materials, certification and assessment
Test and Data Services have licensed training material from Grove Consultants. Comprehensive course notes are provided. During the course several practical worksheets will be issued. These will assist candidates in their preparation for the final exam. The training material that Test and Data Services uses is accredited by the UKTB.

- Accreditation
Test and Data Services has applied for full accreditation from the SASTQB. This application is pending assessment. A decision is expected in the third quarter of 2009.

Training Venues
Test and Data Services presents courses at several well-established training facilities in Midrand (near Johannesburg and Pretoria), Cape Town and Durban. Training can be arranged at the client’s premises depending on adequate facilities and candidate numbers.
Training courses can also be provided internationally.

with Test and Data Services
The structure of the ISTQB Advanced course contains a common core module of 2 days which can be followed by 3 days for each of any selected Certified Tester modules. This saves the candidate 4 days of training (and cost) to become a “Full Advanced Certified Tester.” This full certification takes 11 days with Test and Data Services, rather than the 15 it typically requires.
